We've already rubbed it with cherry syrup, but the flavor remains far too bitter for a child.

You can use the following suspension in your case:
R/metronidazole benzoate 6.44 g (4% metronidazole) br/> Nabenzate 100mg br/> Tween 80 100mg br/> 4% avicel RC 981 dispersion 75g br/> Nasaccharinate 200mg br/> Strong orange peel tincture 5g br/> Freshly boiled water up to 100ml
It is said that the benzoate has a more acceptable flavor.
