Can xanthelasma be treated with the application of trichloroacetic acid, do you know the concentration and duration of treatment?

Answer

(Thanks to Dr. L. Verhoeve, dermatologist)

Xanthelasma palpebrarum (Xanthos-Elasma): There are normolipemic and hyperlipemic xanthelasmata.

Treatments:

  1. Surgery: Cutting out
  2. laser
  3. electrocautery
  4. eating agents such as trichloroacetic acid: depending on the size and thickness of the lesions: 35 à 50 à 75%-up to 100%, 1 or 2 treatments are sufficient Usually.
    CAUTION: Protecting eyes!
    side effects: hyper-pigmentation, depigmentation, scars.
I have experience with trichloroacetic acid: usually 50%, repeat if necessary after several weeks. For beginners It is paying attention with too strong concentrations!! All treatments can have a recurrence rate of 40% à 60% after 1st treatment (pathophysiology of Xanthelasma still unknown). Additional hypolipemic Medikatie is needed at Dyslipidemie.
