Metronidazole suppositories 500 mg as an alternative to oral administration?

I see in NF6 a proposal to use Witepsol H15 and they speak of a displacement factor 0.44. I find this displacement factor in no other list. Another proposal is PEG-based suppositories, which are recommended by Prof. Remon for higher bioavailability. Can Suppocire AS2X also?

Answer

As the physician's metronidazole prescription under the form of suppositories I suspect he is doing this because of the bad taste of the metronidazole suspension. In addition, metronidazoolbenzoate, which reduces the bad taste, is not available.

So it is best to take the exxcipiêns that gives the highest   bioavailability. In the NF one sets for PEG 1000 and PEG 6000 in equal parts. Very high bioavailability. If PEG 6000 is not available, you can use PEG 4000.

PEG 1000 can be prepared by blending 400 with 6000 (or 4000) in the ratio 6:4. This thus Prostaff Peg 400 0.6   D and PEG 6000 (or 4000) 1.4 D
